Idle Hands Mix
It's pretty bad that this is my first post of 2014. However I will be attempting a strong comeback to the CNF mix scene. Shooting for one a week. We'll see how long I can keep it up. If I keep them around the 30-40 min mark, and don't try to make everything absolutely perfect, I think it can be done. Quantity over quality right? Always a good rule. Anyway, here's some tunes that I've been diggin lately. Hope you do to.

Mix: Dead of Night
Threw a mix up to let you good people know we're still around..
My man Beck says it all in this one:
"These withered hands have dug for a dream
Sifted through sand and leftover nightmares
Over the hill, a desolate wind
Turns shit to gold and blows my soul crazy"
Tracklist after the jump - cheers, y'all.

New CNF Mix: Hooligans 4 Life
This mix has been in the oven for a while. It started as a "Reach The Beach" sequel, but since I haven't actually been going to the beach so far this summer that idea went out the window. What I have been doing this summer is slugging brews, so that's what you could say this one is about. I really just wanted something loud to listen to straight through with a bunch of guitars and a mix of new jams and tunes from back in the day, just good time summer shit. I like that picture a lot because the guy on the right looks like @CurlyBumbles.
Tracklist:
Superchunk - This Summer

The weather's been all over the place lately, from cold as all fuck to snow amidst sunshine, melting as it falls. Yesterday cleared 70 degrees only to give way to midnight hurricane gusts and cold temperatures for the foreseeable future, but who the hell knows. The only thing that's consistent this season is the music played through the house, which your friends at the Non-Factor are happy to share.

I will meet the oily fur of the enemy head on. Sandy's winds have passed on and a new calm resides on Virginia Ave. But I'm no fool. Here I am, slugging my final brews and gearing up essential tunes.

An Attack Is Not Taking Place Mix
The calm of the Fall months masks the impending behemoth of the Winter. The early morning fog unfurls into our streets, yards, minds. The short dark days distort our senses. It always reminds me of the day everything changed, because it was on a night just like this. When they came to our windows, inside our homes, as we silently slept. As they planned to the smallest detail their quiet takeover and made us their experiments. We would wake in our beds and go on with our days with the understanding that while everything had changed, we were powerless to do anything about it. So we continued to operate instinctively, as if on rails, on our linear path.
The Fall brings back many fond memories, though they are not my own. Over the years I have developed a fondness for my implanted memories and dreams. Where they choose to send me in this life is of little consequence to me. I am at peace with my faceless controllers. Green is go, red is stop. There is no fog anymore, and I prepare for the Winter as I always do. I hardly notice the programmed voice in my head that has sounded every 15 minutes for the last 10 years:
"An attack is not taking place."

Build a Fire Mix
He travels fastest who travels alone . . . but not after the frost has dropped below zero fify degrees or more. - Yukon Code.
Its that time of the year again. The nights are longer, the air is colder, and the wind will soon be whippin at your ass. Don't fuck with mother nature. She doesn't give a damn who you are, and that bitch will get nasty. Whatever problems you might have, just be thankful you aren't stranded on an open tundra. Or maybe you are... If so, just put on the new mix, try your damnedest to build that fire. Cozy up to the tunes, and embrace the sweet euphoria of frozen death. Because the trees are all gone, so slack off, have fun, learn to play pool, inhale. Peddle the ass that god gave you.

The Small Hours Mix
Saturday, sometime between 2 and 3 AM, The Small Hours of the night, I crashed landed on my face in the street.
Though I only blacked out for a matter of seconds, the journey within my mind lasted for what seemed like hours. Memories of the week prior sailed through my conscience, drifting in and out of view in a fog, like an old lighthouse in a murky bog. I saw Jan Vesely and Khal Drogo laugh at me through cracked TV monitors and was mocked by a man who referred to himself only as Mr. Clutch. When I came to, I was face down on my bedroom floor.
Luckily, documented evidence of this meta odyssey is available in the form of this mix: The Small Hours. Repossess your mind.

Reach The Beach Mix
This mix tells a story, or tries to. The winter months take ordinary people like you and I hostage, the short days and long nights spent dreading the next day of work or school can push you toward the edge of madness. When spring comes it brings with it rain and gray skies making it seem like there may be no relief in sight. But there is, and it's almost here: Sweet Summertime.
This mix chronicles the journey of a man (who can be any one of us) as he transitions from the manic, veiny-eyed ravings of a man at the end of his rope to a chill bro who has found solace in the church of the beach. He takes off into a realm that is neither ocean nor space, swimming in the ether and discovering new life forms. He meets three rapping ghosts of summers past and finds a small planet in the corner of the galaxy where he can ponder his existence. By the last two tracks he's sitting in his new home, the beach at night, reflecting on his quest before the final track comes and lifts him into the air. It is at this point, looking down on the world he once knew below him, his mind is free and he backstrokes through the night sky.
In the breakdown we hear him go through to open the mix, he thinks out loud and rants on a great many subjects, most of which are out of his control. In contrast, the final track leaves him with the comfort of knowing it can all be as simple as "Some things come from nothing, nothing seems to come from something."

The Rick Deckard Dilemma Mix
Have you ever considered the possibility that your own thoughts might be artificial? Do you have trouble distinguishing certain realities? Do you wake up not knowing where you've been for the last week, or even what happened in your childhood? Here at the non factor, these types of existential crises are a daily occurrence (hence the constant need for coach Taylor). Most likely, you are just stupid, crazy, or (probably) on too many drugs. But perhaps there is something else going on.... Don't feel bad though, even Deckard didn't know till it was much too late. So just press play, and try not to think too much.
